I don't like books that are too stressy so no thrillers / murder mysteries etc. I also only like happy endings and don't want to read any weepies.
I love Nick Hornby and Jostein Gaarder, just read The Miniaturist which I really liked in style but was frustrated with because of some of the unbelievable points. I quite like a bit of romance.

Any ideas anyone?

I've also in the past enjoyed some old classics such as Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice etc.

Have you read The Girl with the Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier? I would think her novels may fit your criteria Smile

Oh yy to Girl With A Pearl Earring - in fact most of Tracy Chevalier's novels are lovely. Fallen Angels is a particular favourite of mine.

I also recommend anything by Alexander McCall Smith. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency novels are beautifully written and really lovely stories.

If you liked Jane Austen, have you read Emma? It's a cracking good read.

I always recommend, 'Miss Pettigrew Lives For a Day' to people who like Jane Austen. It's a funny and sweet, slightly 'different' love story.

Sorry that should have been "FallING Angels"

The Jane Austen Book Club is a good one too

Thanks... will try Girl with a pearl earring. I was put off by the film which I found slow and drawn out... hoping the book is better. Ah yes I did read a couple of the ladies detective but will dig more out. Thanks for the other suggestions too. I knew you guys would come up with something!
