I need a good book recommendation for holiday. I seem to have read or not fancy all of the ones that are being pushed by the bookshops at the moment. Can you help?

The island by Victoria Hislop is a wonderful read (dont be put off by the fact the characters live on a leper colony). It is a well written, moving book. It all depends on your taste doesnt it. For thriller the new Harlan Coben-P4omise Me is good as is the new James patterson hardback-Judge & Jury. If you fancy something thought provoking, "We Need to talk about Kevin" by Lionel Shriver is very good. For humour, The Fish Finger Years by Fiona Gibson is very funny. I have not read any good chick lit recently. It is sad, I read A LOT, and yet cant actually come up with much I would recommend at the moment. Elizabeth Nobles the Reading Group novel is quite good and readable. Hope this helps, if not, post what sort of authors you usually like and I will try to come up with some more.

How about a bit of murakami? Always quite dreamy and diverting I find, maybe suitable for a holiday

The Corrections by Jonthan Frantzen is a book I loved reading on holiday.

I liked On Beauty too. It had a few surprises on the way. Following the members of one family, a bit like a written soap opera in a way.

Phillipa Gregory - The Other Boleyn Girl - fantastic if fact her books are superb - historical though but most certainly not heavy going. If you like a thriller James Rollins Map of Bones is excellent.
