Anyone with audible?

Must say I do like audible.

I listen on the long commute to work and really grateful for it.

But I know have a stack of 8 to go and lots of credits to spend.

If you cancel do you loose all your books?

I finished listening to History of the Rain by Niall Williams a couple of days ago. Lovely story, really enjoyable and the narration by Jennifer McGrath was faultless.

Just started listening to The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber today. It's going to take quite a long time - 20 hours, but I like it so far and good narrator.

antimatter · 05/03/2015 11:13

I started The book of strange new things and couldn't get excited about it at all Sad

Oh oh! Just tuned in to watch episode 1 of the new Masterchef and realize that 'Anna' from the Audible The Girl on The Train is the narrator! I couldn't bear her sections so will now have to forego Masterchef! How annoying. It was my first and only Audible book to date. Is this what lies in store? Bad book narrators infiltrating my telly? Grin

Have just about finished I am Malala on audible. My children don't know they are born!

crimsonh · 25/03/2015 19:11

H is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald's
The first book read by the author I enjoyed very, very much. This is autobiographical book about loss and grief.
Well worth listening to.

Bumping the thread Smile

AnonymousBird · 16/04/2015 11:05

Just marking my place to come back for recommendations....

FiveHoursSleep · 01/05/2015 16:08

I hope people don't mind if I keep this thread going but I have found it useful for recommendations.

Lately I have listened to To Kill A Mocking Bird, as I have preordered her new book and I wanted to be reminded of the story. I enjoyed it, then moved onto the first Poldark book which was a bit slow but ultimately worth the effort.
Then I moved onto Charlotte Sometimes, which is really a kids book but I loved it, then Our Endless NUmbered Days- which was fantastic.
I guessed the twist, but couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards
Right now I've moved onto The Chronicles of St Mary's series- which are light and easy so far.

What's everyone else listening to?

AnonymousBird · 05/05/2015 10:20

I am listening to The Blue Afternoon by William Boyd. It's quite different from the others of his I have read/listened to, but I am enjoying it.

Also listening to Awful Auntie with the children, which will bring us completely up to date with the whole set of Walliams Books!

antimatter · 05/05/2015 16:29

I am listening to When God was a Rabbit - so far enjoying it

I loved Us by David Nicholls and One plus One by Jojo Moyes (I really liked other books both writers as well)

Does anyone know how to return books you don't like and get a refund?

florentina1 · 06/05/2015 21:55

To return a book,

On the home page is says HI and your name.

Click on that, then scroll down and at the bottom it says return book. I have returned 3 this year. It is easy to,do.

antimatter · 07/05/2015 06:31

The Woman In White is free for the Kindle and you can add the Audible narration for free too

  • I think only if you have Kindle unlimited subscription.

Also many more classics as well.

thelittlebooktroll · 07/05/2015 08:13

Thanks florentina1 that's fantastic. Love audible!!

thelittlebooktroll · 07/05/2015 11:11

One more question- how do you find books on sale? I just purchased a book and it came up as being in sale but how do you search for books on sale?

florentina1 · 07/05/2015 16:24

Quite often emails appear with sale offers or 3 books for 2 credits. Sometimes these last only 24 or 48 hours. Just check that Audible is automatically going into the spam file..

florentina1 · 07/05/2015 16:25

Is NOT going into spam, oops

Lindt70Percent · 08/05/2015 17:58

antimatter I haven't got an unlimited subscription and got it for free. Not really sure why. It's not very clear.

antimatter · 08/05/2015 19:56

I realised I had Woman in white (free version) downloaded on my kindle. Where can you see option to listen to audible for this book?
Is it on your phone or perhaps tablet?

antimatter · 10/05/2015 10:58

I downloaded free Woman in White.
I read it twice over 25 years ago. Will listen to it soon!

ThursdayLast · 10/05/2015 11:02

Just marking my place.
I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into Kate Atkinsons new one, but am just finishing off Bill Brysons Shakespeare.

KatieScarlettreregged · 10/05/2015 11:09

Currently loving The Time Travellers Guide to Medieval England and the Elizabeth one.
Best listened to in bed on a speaker dock with candles and chocolate.
Heaven.

Vijac · 10/05/2015 15:10

I'm a big audible lover too and also listen every night. Favourites include the dragon tattoo series. I also read the books but worth listening to the audio too. Also loving Anna Karenina at the moment. Miranda's autobiography is very funny especially as it is read by her. That's the best thing about some of the newer autobiographies. I also enjoyed Alan partridge, Michael macintyre and Steven fry. I also love the new Matilda and Danny the champion of the world (reliving my youth).

Lindt70Percent · 10/05/2015 18:56

antimatter Hooray! Should keep us busy for a while.
