Anyone with audible?

Must say I do like audible.

I listen on the long commute to work and really grateful for it.

But I know have a stack of 8 to go and lots of credits to spend.

If you cancel do you loose all your books?

Andcake - try your local library for free audioboks as well - between offers on audible and the library you should be OK, some books are up to 30 hours long, others may be as little as 6 or 7.
THere are various offers on audible - for instance I got voucher for 6 books as a gift. If I buy 3 (the current offer), then I get 10 pounds voucher. There are sales on where for that amount you can get 2 good books.

You can at some point switch to one off yearly charge, get the all credit at once and use them for offers like this one.

There are also sales 2 books for 1 credit, or 3 for 2.

And they have started doing a daily deal where a book is offered for one say at between £0.99 and £2.99. Worth checking daily or sign up to the email notifications.

DuchessofMalfi · 12/02/2015 21:40

That should read day not say ...

Andcake · 13/02/2015 13:00

I've worked out that my library does audiobooks not sure how it all works yet but will give it a go Grin
Also family have been asking me what I want for my birthday so and I have no idea so may ask for an audible gift subscription.
I'm one of these people who can never think of anything as a gift especially as I don't have time to read. I've been listening some of the ones on spotify this week where they have some bronte and lived Madame bovary but these were basically re reads and was aching for something modern. The last book I read was a murakami 'colourless' and haven't read many of his so v excited Smile

antimatter · 13/02/2015 13:15

I listened to Colouress, 1Q84 and the Norwegian woods - I liked all 3.
If you get 12 books subscription it works at 4.99/book I think. Ant that is really god value.

AliceInHinterland · 13/02/2015 20:11

I have recently enjoyed:
Georgette Heyer - The Corinthian
Amy Poehler - Yes Please
The Song of Achilles
Silas Marner BBC adaptation

DuchessofMalfi · 13/02/2015 20:53

What did you think of the narrator of Colorless Tsukuru, Antimatter?

I thought he did rather a poor job, and I returned it for a refund. He sounded utterly bored. Rather spoiled it for me, because the story itself was really good (as you'd expect from Murakami :))

antimatter · 13/02/2015 21:34

Maybe story was soo good it didn't matter for me? I rather liked it and I returned several books in the last 6 months when I couldn't get on with narrator. I listen to it whilst driving and when walking my dog. I still remember certain dialogs and where in the park I was...
I need another Murakami soon! I worry what is going to happen when I finish them all - would I listen to them again perhaps Grin Or read for a change!

imisssleepandwine · 17/02/2015 20:36

I am listening to Stoner, really enjoying it!

minifingers · 19/02/2015 07:18

Stoner is wonderful. :-)

Hakluyt · 19/02/2015 07:25

Just to warn you- I took them seriously about the no quibbles return- and now they have stopped me doing it. So be circumspect!

BringMeTea · 19/02/2015 08:34

Right. So this thread made me sign up for the 30 day trial today. Got The Girl on The Train. Will start tonight in bed. Have never listened to an audio book but love R4 dramas etc so should work. Also got the year's gift for DH bday next month as he flies a lot.

I have high hopes of it being life changing. Smile

BringMeTea · 19/02/2015 08:36

Incidentally I am reading Stoner currently. It might work better as an audio I think, given the right narrator.

fredfredsausagehead1 · 19/02/2015 10:47

Just signed up for the free book and half way through girl on a train, never got so much housework done!! Love it!!!!!

BringMeTea · 19/02/2015 10:55

Ha ha Fred that inspires confidence for my night time listen, though possibly not my sleep...

BringMeTea · 19/02/2015 10:58

And 'flys' obvs. Sigh.

antimatter · 19/02/2015 12:27

It did change my life Smile

Narrator of Stoner definitely spot on!

BringMeTea · 19/02/2015 12:37

Antimatter I am about 2/3 through Stoner so will plough on. I think it is an incredible book but I must admit to feeling disheartened at times so have put it aside. I feel sure if I had listened to it my experience would have been more uplifting iyswim.

I am actually looking forward to my inaugural audible session tonight.

fredfredsausagehead1 · 19/02/2015 17:25

Listened to girl on a train in a day in a half, whoops!

FiveHoursSleep · 19/02/2015 22:42

I am 30 hours in to 1Q84, only another 16 hours to go.
It's different but I am enjoying it and it's certainly value for money!

antimatter · 20/02/2015 13:55

FiveHoursSleep - I am glad you are enjoying it. 3 different narrators IMHO made it into very interesting experience.

Batmansunderpants · 22/02/2015 14:29

Thanks for all the recommendations! I couldn't get into Wolf Hall or Stoner so I have now got the audio books.

Currently listening to World without End and love it

Calfon · 23/02/2015 20:44

I love Audible. I just finished Stoner and the narration was amazing -probably one of the best I have ever listened to. Also love Terry Pratchett's Discworld on Audible especially the ones read by Stephen Brigg. I also buy books for the kids to listen to in the car for the long commute to school. We just finished a bio on Einstein -only cost .79pGrin Grin

FiveHoursSleep · 04/03/2015 18:47

Finally finished 1Q84. It was different, obviously a translation and I liked it but it went on for 46 hours!
Who can recommend something they have enjoyed recently?
