yeh - love his work although some of his later stuff has been a bit weak.

suejoneziscalmernow · 18/09/2006 00:00

I used to work with him.

suejoneziscalmernow · 18/09/2006 00:00

At the time he was writing his first two books, first one was already published but not sold many at that point.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 18/09/2006 00:03

I agree that his earlier stuff was fab but they are getting weaker and weaker as he rushes to push them out whilst he is on a career high. Hes writing more with co-writers now too, and his plot lines are flimsy and less intelliegent than they were origionally.

suejoneziscalmernow · 18/09/2006 00:06

what Tamba - now gasps of amazemant at me hob-nobbing with the rich and famous? It's my only celebrity story.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 18/09/2006 00:11

Oh shit sorry

OMG Sue!
Did you touch him?
Can you ge me an autograph?
Or even better, Alex Crosses phone number? (actually forget that, anyone that gets near him gets murdered or put in danger!)

suejoneziscalmernow · 18/09/2006 00:14

Yes I did touch him bit tried not to ddo it too much in case I was sacked for stalking a director! He used to use our phone directory to produce names for his minor charactors - there's a police detective called Lewis Trencher - who was my boss in one of his early books!

suejoneziscalmernow · 18/09/2006 00:15

I don;t work there anymore - but neither does he so no autograph - sorry...

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 18/09/2006 00:22

Ah well.

At least you have a claim to fame! I dont yet... maybe im building up to a huge one or something

I have nearly all of his books. H used to rush out and get me the new one as soon as it was released and leave it on my pillow and then let me spend the day doing nothing but reading it! But I doubt that will happen with this new one (another Ales Cross one - He finally finds out who killed Maria!) Oh well, may have to go and get it myself Damm I miss being a pampered little princess

loopylou0612 · 18/09/2006 01:34

Wow Sue! How exciting! I've noticed a lot of his stuff is being written with co-authors too. The only 'dud' one I've read so far, is 'Honeymoon'. Didn't think it was that good, to be honest. Just read 'Violets are Blue' and that was brilliant, almost as good as 'Kiss the Girls'.

beach road I think it is was pretty lame too.

loopylou0612 · 18/09/2006 03:53

Haven't yet read that one. Just bought 'Pop Goes the Weasel', 'The Lifeguard' and '2nd Chance' today. Any good?

2nd chance I part of the woman's murder club isn't it - enjoy those ones.

lifeguard - can't remember but know I have read it.

pop goes the weasel - good one.

TambaTheDragonSlayer · 18/09/2006 09:14

I think the Alex Cross books are good up until he joins the FBI and then they go down hill alot.

The womens Murder Club started off good but the latest one (5th of July I think its called?) about the malpractice at the hosptial isnt great at all.

The only one I havent read I think, is Suzannes Diary for Nicholas, I have it, I just cant get into it iykwim.

dreamteamgirl · 19/09/2006 11:05

Agree, they definately went down hill more recently. The Beach House I think it was called, was not his best work either.

I ADORE the ones with the winged children tho -both of them made me cry and cry. Is it "where the wind blows" or something?

Totally love all his earlier stuff tho, and Alex Cross seems so sexy

Very impressed at Sue Jones actually MEETING him- whats he like?????

troll1 · 19/09/2006 22:25

judge and jury the latest is very good and i quite liked the last one with beach in the title. have the new alex cross from library to read but they tend to be hit and miss nowadays. am feeling that he is releasing so many books it is becoming farcical, some of them i have just not understood the ending at all, probably because i have not cared that much so have skim read them.
