Book about a woman who takes a blind man to the zoo

I was just watching The Mimic in which the main character takes a blind woman around the zoo and she asks him to describe the animals. It reminded me of a book I read recently but I cannot for the life of me remember the name of it. From what I remember it was about a young woman (I think possibly an African immigrant but I may be wrong as I may be getting parts of the book confused with The Girl Who Saved The King Of Sweden which I also read recently). She arrives in, I think, a European city and hangs around a train station where she is recognised by a man who is, I think, working for a blind man.

She is then employed by the blind man who uses her as her eyes, one of the things he likes to do is go to the zoo and have her describe the animals to him. She lives with him and he is rich with lots of art, at a later point in the book the art starts going missing as one of the characters is selling it off. There is a love-story between the woman and the man who she saw at the train station, I think he may be homeless or he lives in some sort of squat and I think she joins him for a time.

It is very unlike me not to remember the plot of a book, especially one I read fairly recently, and I could usually recall the title and all details of books I have read but this one eludes me and my memory of it is very vague.

Does anybody recognise this book from my descriptions? Thanks in advance if anybody does!

Thinking about it I think the book may have been set in Paris, or in France anyway.
