They are fabulous: I don't know why, but the children love them; and they're great to read aloud.
Grk by Joshua Doder
All credit to Cod who put me on to them (but don't let that put you off ) they really are fabulous.
DS2 (7) is a great little reader, but extremely reluctant to read fiction, and very suspicious of any books I try to encourage him to read.

He loved the first two Grk books. The third book is published today, but it arrived from Amazon on Tuesday, and ds2 has been inseparable from it ever since. I've just given him an extension on his lights out time as he's almost finished!

Any more suggestions Cod? What else has your ds1 read and enjoyed recently?

are they boy specific or will girls like them too?

roisin · 07/09/2006 20:26

I've only read the first couple of chapters of the first two books! I would say they'd appeal to girls too.

But make sure you hide your credit cards before they read them

Oh thanks for the tip roisin and of course cod. Someone should make her queen
We tried Michael Morpurgo this summer thanks to cod too, ds loved The Butterfly Lion and The Wreck of the Zanzibar, both suitable for younger readers
