Loved the Inspector Montalbano series, sadly read all of the available books. Can anyone recommend anything similar? We are off to France soon so something based there would be ideal Smile thanks!

Cara Black writes a series featuring a female PI set in Paris - there's one book per arrondissement. The first is Murder in the Marais.

Or maybe Fred Vargas? I haven't read any if her books but they get great reviews.

Colin Cotterill's Inspector Siri books. Even has a French connection.

Thank you so much! I have bought the first Inspector Siri book and have downloaded the sample of Cara Black sample. Fred Vargas writing sounds very interesting but cannot get copies on Nook so will need to wait till we are back before a library trip. Now hoping will find some time to read it all :)

Donna Leon ones based in Venice (ok not France, I know) are great!

Not Montalbano, but 'Hunting Season' by Camilleri is very, very funny - even DS (16) was chortling and he is a sullen teen...

Not French but Italian again - have you read the Aurelio Zen books, by Michael Dibden? Zen is a great character, I think. I seem to remember there was a TV adaptation which was wildly disappointing.
