Does anybody know "The Borrowers" - is it a good book to read to a five year old?

It's good but depends on the 5-year-old: some might find it a bit wordy, others be entranced. Worth trying, at any rate.

It's great! If she likes it, also try Milly Molly Mandy and Mrs Pepperpot. I have got lovely memories of my sister reading them to me at the same age, and we now have them for our eldest daughter (also 5). She loves them.

I tried with ds when he was 6 and had to give up because he found it too wordy. I think if I was trying again I would miss out some of the longer descriptive bits . It is a lovely story though.

I loved that book Emkana as a child and still now, there are some scary bits but most of it is enchanting!
