Jodi Picoult - Vanishing Acts - anyone read it?

I've got it and keep eyeing it trying to decide whether to read it - I loved The Pact unti I got to the end, which I HATED.

I really don't want to read this one if the ending is rubbish again - I feel ridiculously annoyed by a bad ending!

SO, without giving anything away, should I read it!?

yes I have, I enjoyed better than The Pact I would say.

There's quite a large part of it in a prison which I enjoyed - then again there's another section with an old Indian woman (iirc!) must admit I scan read a lot of the pages there.

On the whole though a good read.

Oh thanks, I'll give it a whirl

funny Joolstoo, I didn't like the prison stuff AT ALL!! Seemed v similar material to another of hers - Salem Falls maybe?

I agree MamaG, the ending of The Pact was rubbish. Think Vanishing Acts is worth reading though...

Joolstoo · 02/09/2006 17:59

can't remember whether I've read Salem Falls - what's it about?

tassis · 02/09/2006 18:01

Think Salem falls is teenage girls into witchcraft and accusing a teacher of child abuse...

something like that

Just finished Plain Truth and thought it was rubbish. Wouldnt read another of her books even though there is about three on Tescos shelves at the minute. Have really gone off American writers (apologies to any yanks), had went through phase of reading Patricia Cornwell books few years ago until I copped on they were all so similar in structure. Am now reading The Sixth Lamentation recommended on last years R&J, anyone read it?

I'd liked the first few I'd read of hers but couldn't get into Vanishing Acts, gave up about halfway through. Agree that they're very formulaic, same stuff about prisons etc and some very dodgy endings. I liked Salem Falls the best, but she does seem to be knocking them out at an alarming rate! Wouldn't bother reading any more.

Joolstoo · 02/09/2006 18:15

oh yes - I have read it - not bad

MamaG · 03/09/2006 07:25

I've only read The Pact by her, so I'm not at the predicting stage just yet! Think I'll give it a try though - it's a library book so its not the end of the world if I don't finish it

I'm reading Perfect Match atm - fairly readable, not mad on her though
