We need a bit more to go on. Is she a keen reader, or more reluctant? What is she interested in? Is she mature for her age, street-wise or more young and naive? Do you know her well? What does she like reading?

Noughts and Crosses is IMO the best contemporary teenage book: superb. But very powerful stuff, and content would not be suitable for all 12 yr-olds.
