I'm half way through and finding it hard-going. Is it just me? I will persevere but am less gripped than I'd like. Maybe it's the writing style, which I'm finding a little flat.

Well, I thought it got better towards the end. It's funny, though, although I thought it was an interesting story (particularly the maternal grandfather), there was something about the way it was told that didn't engage me. One curious thing though is that it left me feeling that East Germany wasn't as bad as I'd always imagined - which probably wasn't the intention!
