I bought it for mum for bd and she said it is good.

I've read it and really enjoyed it. Bit scary in parts (if you're scared of vampires, anyway!!). Worth reading, and I found it easy to get into.

On page 200 now. Got it after a previous thread on the book - Ilovecaboose recommended it.
Enjoying it so far.

Resurrecting this. I have to read this for my next book club meeting & I am really not enjoying it. Think it is a load of old tosh. Lots of pretty descriptions of middle Europe, too many adjectives & poor character development.
Am I just a grumpy old cow with no literary appreciation - of has anyone else read it & thought the same?

witchscatsmother · 31/10/2006 21:29

I read it and loved it - sorry. Though agree that some of the characters could have been evoked much better.

I took this away with me for half term last week-really looking forward to a good holiday read.

It was total rubbish.

For 3 days I forced myself to carry on with it in the hope I'd get hooked, but it never happened, so I abandoned it (something I rarely do with books) and started a new one from the shelf of the cottage we were staying in.

I was just bored with it, felt like I was kept waiting indefinetly for the plot to be revealed, and the parts which were revealed were just silly and made no sense.

Sorry to those of you who loved it, I know it's so hard to understand others hating books you love and vice versa.

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 03/11/2006 11:14

Oops just mentioned this on the wrong thread.
I found the writing tedious, the plot ok, the characters lacklustre and humourless and the vampire lacking sparkle, sex apeal or wit.

marymillington · 03/11/2006 11:17

its a bit overlong
and the action's not scary enough

Bucketsofburntdinosaurs · 03/11/2006 11:19

Oh yeah, forgot it was supposed to be a horror!
