Starts with a pregnant woman packing up her home. She then looks back on her life. She was the daughter of a headmistress in a seaside town - meets a boy and then after a few false starts falls in love. They end up moving in with his slightly eccentric family. At some point they move to London and he teaches whilst I think she becomes something media based. He gets ill- he is diagnosed with cancer and they move back to his family. He dies. The last bit is her leaving the seaside town again - pregnant and with a new partner (doctor) to start a new life.
