I read The Last Time They Met and quite enjoyed it, though the end threw me slightly. I'm sure I've read other ones (did she write Eden Close? That one is ace) but can't remember what just now.

(btw it's Shreve if you decide to search on it - sorry)

cheers miaou!

I think I read one a while back - light on snow - or water (?) and quite enjoyed.

have read the jodi piccoult collection (enjoyed a couple - but got fed up with the darting narrative) so looking for another easyish (ie non time consuming!) read.

Ooooh I've just read a load of Jodi Picoult ones - in fact I think you recommended them! Am currently trying to track down The Handmaid's Tale, having enjoyed The Blind Assasin (I'm sure I've spelt that wrong)

Have you read any Margaret Forster? I'm reading "Is there Anything You Need?" at the moment and it's really good.

I quite enjoyed Light on Snow and The Pilot's Wife (read this on a plane ). I haven't found either book startling but there is something enjoyable about them that I can't quite put my finger on.

Have you tried Maggie O'Farrell? I liked After You'd Gone (cried buckets) and The Distance Between Us is a good story, wasn't so fond of My Lover's Lover. She writes well and her style is easily accessible. Not quite as gloomy as Anita Shreve either.

Resistance was the first book I read and so far the best Anita Shreve.

Agree with ShowOfHands, After You'd Gone is brilliant, loved it.
