I've read all his 'Dead' series of books but not his earlier ones, I think they are horror. I love him, I have him liked on fb and he seems a really nice bloke.

I have read all the Roy Grace series and have found a 'discount' bookshop near me that sells some of his old books so Iv started on them!

Are tgey any good? I hate it if I like an author and read early stuff and its not great. His latest releas is the first book he wrote I think.

Have you read Peter Robinsons Inspector Banks books?

honeybeeridiculous · 17/01/2014 22:18

They are different to Roy Grace but still good, his new book 'perfect murder' has been made into a play at my local theatre, think I may have to go, Les Dennis is in it Hmm

Peter James with the Roy Grace series is brilliant but my favourite book by him is Alchemist. Love it.

I loved some of Peter Robinson's books but seem to have gone off him. Need a replacement. Have you tried Kerry Wilkinson? Very good. Any recommendations welcome Smile.

I've read the Peter James 'Dead' books and love them - haven't read his early books and don't plan too as from the blurbs I have read I don't think I will like them

The 'Inspector Banks' books are really good too.

Another similar author is Graham Hurley - although I haven't read the last two published due to a huge back-log of books on my 'To Read' list.

How about the Bob Skinner series by Quentin Jardine?

Also, I discovered an author called James Craig through a cheap Amazon Kindle book offer - his book are based around a Met Police officer Inspector called Carlyle.

The Roy Grace books are great, some of his early horror stuff is really good too. He is well worth a read.

TempusFuckit · 17/01/2014 22:53

He's one of the worst writers I've read. His characters are formulaic and clearly written with telly in mind, his dialogue clunky, great big chunks of scene-setting explanatory text are practically copied and pasted from book to book.

But the plots - riveting. I keep going back for more and hating myself for it Grin

If you like the Roy Grace books you'll enjoy Peter Robinson .
The only thing I hate about Roy Grace is the way him and his partner are always calling each other darling!
Rebus books by Ian Rankin are great too.
