This may not be the most appropriate place but I was hoping you bookish lot could help out of a sticky situation.

My only brother is getting married in December and has asked me to do a reading at his civil ceremony (there must be no mention of God, angels etc). His fiance's uncle is reading something suitably lovey dovey from 'Captain Correlli's Mandolin'. I would very much like to read something about how families join together through marriage too and support one another (this is quite poignant as three of our parents have died in the last few years). I can't think of a book or poem that might say something like this so can you help me out?
