DD is two and I'm due to have our second baby in early Sept. Can anyone recommend a good picture book for DD to explain that the new baby is coming to live with us?

M&S did one a couple of years ago. They may still do.

Haven't read it yet but my friend is going to give me 'There's a house inside my mummy' which she says was fantastic for her 18 month old.

There's a Topsy & Tim book where one of their friends gets a new baby sibling - looks ok.

You don't no book you need a lobotomy lady!!

I didn't really read any books but I did buy pregnant doll and explained to her about the baby in my tummy...'this your baby brother or sister' 'we all love the baby' make her feel involved with the pregnancy take her to a scan or two or show her a picture 'this our baby, will you help us take care of her?' let her listen to the baby feel it kick etc tell her she used to grow inside you too! I also brought her a t-shirt from blooming marvellous that says 'I'm the big sister' she loved it and couldn't wait to see her new brother or sister hope this helps.x

tHERES ONE CALLED "ZSA ZSA'S baby brother" by Lucy Cousins (Maisie books author). My ds liked this -was 2 when dd born.I personally love "Annie-Rose is my little sister" by Shirley Hughes as she does the most beautiful illustrations.Maybe a bit old for your dd but it is lovely. Also agree with advice to talk to her about baby in mummys tummy etc if she seems intereted.Good Luck

Thanks for all the suggestions. DH and I talk to her about the baby a lot so hopefully some of it is sinking in.

I'll try and find the books you recommended.

Waiting for Baby

and My New Baby

are great. They are board books and don't have words, just pictures so they're good for the toddler to look at alone or with a parent.

My dd1 also liked Zsa Zsa's Baby Brother.

mummyhill · 29/07/2006 21:01

theres a house inside my mummy

lunavix · 29/07/2006 21:05

I asked this a few months ago.

We got ds 'zsa zsas baby brother' and he loves it, it's now his favourite book. We tell him it replacing the words with 'his' words - we change mum and dad to mummy and daddy, zsa zsa to his name, etc.... he loves it.

He's 2.3
