Just come out of a reading drought....help with some reading for 2014 needed!

I have emerged from a reading drought, and having eased myself back into reading gently, I'm after some inspiration.

I'm going to get Madadam and I have a couple of others to go at, but I'm lost.

I like Kingsolver and have read most of hers, ditto Atwood. Couldn't get on with Wolf Hall. I've given up on the Booker shortlist, just too much crap.

Help!

Have you read The Book Thief, Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell or The Time Traveller's Wife. Cloud Atlas?

Have you read The Spinning Heart by Donal Ryan? It was on the Booker Longlist for 2013, but it is so readable, and short too - about 160 pages. It was one of my favourite reads for the year.

Others I have really enjoyed - The Light Between Oceans by M L Stedman, Big Brother by Lionel Shriver, Sweet Tooth by Ian McEwan (and more by him too - Atonement, On Chesil Beach, Enduring Love), The Blackwater Lightship by Colm Toibin, The Innocents by Francesca Segal, The Reluctant Fundamentalist by Moisin Hamid, Dark Matter by Michelle Paver.

Another recommendation for The Book Thief here; it's a slow start, but absolutely gripping once you get into it. I'm also a big fan of Grace McCleen: The House of Decoration and The Poetry Professor. An acquired taste, but I'm addicted!
