I'd go nuts in their history department (though I'd have to wait till after Christmas as DS works for a publisher and has probably got me history books for Christmas.)

ThePearShapedToad · 23/12/2013 18:12

Definitely save it for the sales!

Depends what you're into- travel writing / humour / fiction / history etc

I really love the bill Bryson books for being able to just curl up and not have to "think" about a book

I've also been working my way through the old school classics I used to think were boring when at school- recent "new" discoveries are 1984 and most of the Charles dickens

Or go mad and splurge on every recipe book you've ever wanted Smile

chiquitaloca · 23/12/2013 18:12

Congratulations, it depends what you like. Fiction I would recommend Margaret Atwood, Oryx and Crake.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 23/12/2013 18:14

I would put it towards a kindle paperwhite. I love real books so haven't sucumbed yet but this would be so useful for myblong insomnia fuelled nights without disturbing dh.

Lucky you. Enjoy spending whatever you get!

Maggie o'farrell - love her booksGrin

AnneWentworth · 23/12/2013 18:51

Hotair - that is exactly what I intend to do.

I do have a kindle and I love it but I haven't given up actual books. I do need a new cover and a calendar so those will be two likely purchases.

So jealous!

I would buy a big fat cookbook and lots of these, plus a couple of really beautiful editions of classics such as this.

AnneWentworth · 24/12/2013 15:59

Oh I have a few of the Very Short intros they are great. I might just do that.

I am doing a history degree and I know two lecturers have books out in 2014 so will save a little for those.

Which ones have you read, Anne? The only one I haven't loved so far was the Antarctic one.

BikeRunSki · 24/12/2013 16:04

I have recently discovered Ernest Hemmingway, and would stock up on them. I would also love the Wainwright guides to the Lakeland Fells.

AnneWentworth · 25/12/2013 08:25

I have read, China, 18th Century, 19th century, Empire and the Russian Revolution.
