Roseanna (The Martin Beck series)

Can anyone tell me why this book is so well thought of? I paid (oh my god) for it on kindle and found it dull, dull, dull. I found the translation turgid (unless this was done for a particular stylistic reason?) and plot linear for want of a better word. Nothing hardly happens. So, underwhelmed. Unless I am really missing something here??

I didn't like it either, but it's well regarded because it was ground breaking for it's time.

(I got the whole set from the Book People, and left them on a swopsie shelf at a hotel, which is rare for me as I usually hang on to books).

I didn't like Roseanna that much but have enjoyed the next couple in the series so bought some more in the kindle sale yesterday.

I rather like the sense of place and time in the background to the police procedural but I can see the style might not be to everyone's taste.
