buying and sending books abroad

I wasn't sure which forum to put this in. I wanted to send a book as a present to a friend in Spain. But I wondered how to do that. Could I buy something off amazon-uk for example or would my friend have to pay some kinds of excise duties on arrival. Also I presume it would go from a UK depot and be expensive in shipping charges. Or could I order something from amazon-spain - would that be possible with a UK debit card? I presume shipping charges would be lower if the book was in a spanish depot. Would there be any other charges me or my friend would have to pay then?

Thanks.

Sorry for my ignorance.

Neither you nor your friend would have to pay anything other than shipping to send book to Spain.

It would be cheaper and quicker to buy it in Spain eg Amazon Spain. Last guaranteed European posting date was last Saturday so if sending from uk unlikely to arrive in time.

Yes you should be able to use uk bank card on Spanish web site without problem.

The Book Depository do free worldwide delivery too.

normal amazon works fine to spain, no need to use spanish site. works brilliantly, but best check with the receiver as lots of spanish addresses are sent to PO boxes and as amazon comes in a van outside of postoffice hours, my amazon parcels to spain get left at the local petrol station so make sure address is correct.

You can put in the Spanish address and then your amazon account will show what the shipping charges will be and whether it will send to Spain or not. The bookdepository as was mentioned does deliver to Spain, for free. Check out the price difference between .com and .co.uk, that makes a difference sometimes as well.
You might not be able to buy off amazon Spain as you are in the UK, just like you can't buy off amazon.com from he US.
