Is anyone interested in going to an evening event in Spitalfields Literary Festival of Women's Writing? I was thinking of the comedy evening, or the Pum Pum poets, or perhaps the storytelling one. Are any of you writing anything? I have been trying to find time for many years and am unsure how to start.

Hi outofpractice, your name sounds like what I am. But yes I have tried to write on and off since dd was born but always found it quite difficult to get into the right frame of mind. I'm not far from Spitalfields. Where are you?

I went to this last year (it's the same as SpitLit isn't it?) - saw Barbara Trapido talk which was great (in fact, am now about to post on the favourite books thread). I got the programme the other day, but nothing grabbed me immediately. Could be convinced though (just down the road).

I went to the storytelling evening last year and (whisper) I was rather disappointed. The women story tellers performed well, but the content of all the stories was very samey. The stories were meant to be traditional tales retold. All involved a woman finding or keeping a husband.

I had wanted to go to the workshop about getting your writing published and what sort of writing is in demand at the moment, but there were no places left. I'd be interested to hear from anyone who went to this workshop.

Come on, come on, let's go! It is sort of down the road from me too. Pum Pum poets is billed as "black sisters talking openly about sex?" which could be great or really disappointing, esp when paying for a babysitter! My only RL friend who likes this type of thing has got exams and can't go. Shall we be lowbrow and just go to the comedy evening on the Saturday? I have not managed to write anything, except a diary for the last 20 years. Are you writing novels, or plays, or TV scripts, or poems?
