I would recommend Rosamund Pilcher
Irish writer - Geraldine O'Neill - similar style
Catrin Collier Hearts of Gold series - I've just got this on Kindle - brilliant
Catrin Collier Swansea Girls series
Maeve Binchy - circle of friends/firefly summer/light penny candle particularly
Janet Tanner quartet starting with The Black Mountains
The Jarrow Trilogy by J M Trotter - Catherine Cookson tie in
Annie Groves
Tales of Turnham Malpas - Rebecca Shaw.

Carol Rivers' novels might fit the bill. My MIL likes them.

Maureen Lee, most of her books are set around the 1930s, but she has written a few modern ones. I like them all but especially The September Girls and The Laceys of Liverpool. Of her modern ones, I have enjoyed The House on the Corner and Mother of Pearl.

Katie Flynn writes similar books.
