How old to read It

My DD2 (12.9) wants to read It.

I'm not too sure as it's a long time since I read it so can't remember if there are bits in it she shouldn't be reading.

What are your thoughts please (btw she is petrified of clowns Shock )

If not that one is there any horror books more suitable?

Oh dear god no. I read it as a teenager and it was terrifying.

At the end all the male characters have sex with the 12 year old girl which you might want to avoid too.

Thank you. As I said I couldn't remember and didn't want to read it again Smile

I read it at about that age, and in retrospect it was not a good idea. Has she read any Dean Koontz? Generally more supernatural and less gory/ disturbing. And I suppose she's too old for point horrors?

No,avoid IT. Remember the character who was abused as a child, then as an adult, her husband was somehow able to recognise her as a target for his abuse? Terrible message for an impressionable 12 yo

I read it when I was about 14 and found it pretty scary. think I read my first Stephen King at that age (well 13) The Shining, also pretty scary but kept reading them!
