Am I the only person who ^didn't^ like the Da Vinci code?

I just couldn't really get into it - wasn't keen on the language style and kept "drifting" when I was reading it. Normally if I'm really into a book you could detonate a small nuclear warhead in me knickers and I wouldn't notice.
I'm sure it's a really good book - but I just.....didn't think it was all that

If you thought the book was bad you should see the film pure garbage even my 12 yr old ds wasn't convinced!

NotQuiteCockney · 04/07/2006 12:52

It's not really that well-written.

I read it all, I'll read anything. But I didn't love it, that's for sure.

mawbroon · 04/07/2006 12:58

I read the first chapter and then left it for a couple of weeks. I then picked up where I left off, but had completely forgotten that we know who murdered the guy. I was reading the rest of the book as if it was a "whodunnit" doh . I didn't reckon much to it tbh and won't be seeing the film, not even on dvd.

expatinscotland · 04/07/2006 12:59

it's the kind of book you read on a long haul flight and then forget about.

Iklboo · 04/07/2006 12:59

Thank flip for that - I thought I was some kind of weirdo since everyone was raving about it.

it was crapola

niceglasses · 04/07/2006 13:00

I disliked it so much that I didn't even read it!

gscrym · 04/07/2006 13:00

My friend didn't like it and thought the film was awful. I liked it but got grief for liking it by a tosser on my shift for reading candyfloss (his words). Liked Angels and Demons but not the other 2 books.

Rhubarb · 04/07/2006 13:01

Read Angels and Demons - it's worse than crap! Ours is now hanging next to the toilet for guests to use!

gscrym · 04/07/2006 13:01

Agree with the long-haul flight thing. Was quite good for reading on nightshift when my brain can't cope with anything more intense.

noddyholder · 04/07/2006 13:01

Agree with NQC it isn't that well written

foxinsocks · 04/07/2006 13:04

no - it was awful

was very annoyed with myself for even wasting the time reading it, let alone the fact that I helped line Dan Brown's pockets with cash

actually, what's even more annoying is that suddenly every publisher seems to think we all want more of the same cue loads of books titled 'The secret quest' and on and on......

Rhubarb · 04/07/2006 13:05

Don't buy them! Just loan them on, save other people forking out to read such shite!

Or get them second-hand from Oxfam!

Did you know that he actually teaches creative writing! FRAUD!

Iklboo · 04/07/2006 14:35

Really?? I wouldn't want to read anything any of his pupils churned out then. His style is far too flowery for me - all that "running his hand through this thatch of thick wavy hair" and all that. Using 20 words when half a dozen would do. I reckon the book would be a pamphlet if he didn't pad it out so much!

OP posts:
donnie · 08/07/2006 22:06

agree entirely - real craporama ! puerile and badly written - I can't believe I actually waded through the whole thing!

hoxtonchick · 08/07/2006 22:21

i am refusing to read it on principle

brimfull · 08/07/2006 22:23

crap...wish I hadn't bothered

Gillian76 · 08/07/2006 22:25

Haven't read it but went to see the film last night.

Freaked me out and I didn't understand it!

I was wondering if reading the book would put me in the picture. Maybe not!

Beetle73 · 08/07/2006 22:33

It was dreadful. I did read it quite compulsively, but mostly because I kept thinking that something good must be about to happen (given the hype). In fact, it was just a tedious treasure hunt performed by two unappealing and unconvincing people, with clunky bits of explanation in-between.

mustrunmore · 08/07/2006 22:49

read it and enjoyed it because my brain was in pregnancy mode at that time, so the only things I could take in were books like that, or a double bill of doodle do.
