I've ordered his biography today from Amazon...looking forward to spending the weekend on the couch with Morrissey.

anyone else reading it?

DH reading it, then I will. He says it's a dense read, and he can't imagine anyone getting anything out of it if they're not already a fan or at least familiar with his oeuvre (luckily, we are).

I have just finished it and I was a little bit disappointed. I found it a bit whingey and self-indulgent in places (sorry Morrissey). It is poetically written on the whole and I really wanted to like it more than I did. No doubt you will enjoy it more if you are a huge Smiths or Mozzer fan.

i am in danger of actually liking the man....i always thought of him as homourless for some reason (why i have no idea - as a smiths fan his lyrics i always found funny)

i had no idea he came from such harsh beginnings and his school days sound totally horrendous.

the music industry sounds totally shit if you dont have a clue what your are doing or signing.

i think the press always paint him as this horrible character and reading this has made me think that is patently probably not true - yes he sound a very sensitive soul but not nasty.
i love his use of language - and his very dry humour is all through the book which i liked.

i was a disappointed that he didnt write more about the beginning of the Smiths - the song writing processes and his relationship with Marr in the beginning.....how they met - how they wrote.

i have more sympathy with him now over the court case.....The Smiths were Morrisey and Marr. thats who signed the contract. thats who got sued by rough trade who tried to say hatful of hollow wasnt an album....so it does make one wonder where the other 2 were when the boot was on the other foot.
they signed a contract for 10% - they had no creative input - the turned up and did a job and got 10%.
they didnt write the lyrics or the songs.
it does make me wonder how they managed the civil suite....and they kept a very low profile when the smiths were sued for breach of contract....

i am still only halfway through but its been an eye opener for me.
the paper back version has more left in - i think the hard back has had some stuff removed.....
but i have to say i am in danger of actually liking the bloke.....

I bought it a few months ago intending to read it asap. H then left us and all I have done with the book is look at the lovely picture on the front!

Love the man and adore the Smiths. I will get round to reading it but, atm, can't concentrate very well.

I love morrissey but am scared to read it as I think it could put me off.
My husband bought it for me for Christmas, must start it soon.

Think that David Morrissey has done the audio book and I'm quite tempted to download that as think it will be easier and I like that kind of thing when I run.

it wont put you off allice - i didnt have a terribly high opinion of morrissey but all i knew was from the press....for some reason the nme seemed to have it in for the smiths from the word go....

you will see from my name i am a smiths fan! but i always thought of morrissey as miserable,humourless, serious, someone from an arty background....
could not be more wrong!

reading this has been a real eye opener - yes i think he is a sensitive soul, but he is self depreciating, very funny, dry, witty, and came from the hardest background thinkable in the slums of 60's manchester. how he survived i will never know....he seems a quite delicate flower,so to prosper in amongst such a tough environment is remarkable.

the book has actually really made me warm to him.. i didnt find it whingy - more that he needed to speak his own truth and put the record straight. he comes across very honestly. i dont think the book has done him any harm at all.
