I've just broken up with my boyfriend and would like a good book to take my mind off things.

So perhaps a fairly easy read, but no romance novels or love stories. Perhaps a bit of a crime/thriller, but nothing too scary.

Books I've enjoyed recently were 'before I go to sleep' and 'the wicked girls'. So I guess something along the same lines.

Thanks!

I love the Alexander McCall Smith No1 Ladies Detective Agency series in unhappy times. Easy reading, distant location takes me away from here. Not heavy on romance. Not scary or worrying.

YY to Neverwhere. Downloaded it my kindle quite recently, engrossing and escapist reading.

NewName have you read his other books? They're all really good!

NewNameforNewTerm · 12/10/2013 21:28

No, I can't remember why I googled Neverwhere and thought it looked good so bought it. Which do you recommend next?

RandyGiles · 12/10/2013 21:48

American Gds is probably my next favourite.

Radio four did an adaptation of neverwhere with James McAvoy and Benedict Cumberbatch, but I don't think it is available at the moment.

Black is the colour - Helen Howe
As Far as you can go - Lesley Glaister

Both very readable psychological mysteries to get engrossed in and last time I looked were both less than two quid on Amazon!!
