I'm just over halfway through Dominion and loving it. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but am enjoying it so much I almost don't want to read it iyswim as then I will have finished it.

I like the sound of that one Tabby

Mine are oldies that I' ve only recently got round to reading. The Time Machine and The Road.

I have Doctor Sleep and The Husband's Confession downloaded on my kindle once I get a chance to start them so glad to see them mentioned here.

The Snow Child. brilliant, quite magical in style. WEPT over it.

Now trying to read The True something blah blah of Ned Kelly for work (English teacher) and hate it. Grr.

I've just finished reading 'Child 44' and found I couldn't put it down.

Life after life - Kate Atkinson. Wonderful.

Louise1956 · 02/11/2013 05:23

I just finished reading One Man And His Bike by mike Carter. He rode all round the coastline of Britain. Very interesting and amusing, though the second half of the journey is a bit rushed through.

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland · 04/11/2013 21:31

Lots of really good recent books, can I have more than one please?

On the Black Hill - read it every year or so and always love it.

An Equal Music - a huge favourite.

The Snow Child - although I enjoyed the first part more than the ending.

Cleopatra's Sister - I'm a big fan of Penelope Lively but hadn't read this one before for some reason.

I've promised a friend I'll read The Help soon as she's read it and wants to discuss it. Good to hear that other people have enjoyed it.

Glashopper

lovely book but was sad for a quite a few days after the ending

MerlinFromCamelot · 05/11/2013 22:03

The poison tree - Erin Kelly

Great but easy read if you like psychological suspense. Maybe a little bit predictable but I enjoyed it. Also only £1.99 on kindle.

The little coffee shop of Kabul by Deborah Rodriguez.
Really enjoyed it.

neolara · 16/11/2013 22:53

My husband's secret

LauraChant · 16/11/2013 22:58

Night waking by Sarah Moss - I loved the portrayal of the children

A Fine Balance by Rohinton Mistry, although a lot of it I found very distressing.

And Morvern Callar, such sensuous imagery.

RazaMeTimbers · 16/11/2013 23:01

I see The Light Between Oceans and Life After Life have already been mentioned, so I add 'Almost English' by Charlotte Mendelson. I could really see things from the mother's and the daughter's point of view and felt for them both equally. Loved the Hungarian Oldies.

I've just read Lavender Days by Robin Squire. It really swept me away to a sunny lavender-scented place, and it's given me lots of food for thought (while I'm peeling the veg now for dinner!). It's free to download on Kindle this weekend www.bit.ly/LavenderDaysAmazon

somewhereinessex · 17/11/2013 17:56

Two Brothers by Ben Elton

Wallison · 17/11/2013 18:04

MiddleAgeMiddleEngland, I was a bit disappointed by An Equal Music, which upset me because I loved loved loved A Suitable Boy. I just thought the characters were formulaic and the evocation of London too pastoral, although I liked the writing about music in it (most books don't do this to my taste - one other that I liked for that was a book of short stories by Ishiguro called Nocturnes).

shartsi · 23/11/2013 18:32

Metallic dreams by Mark Rice- very very funny

Shosha1 · 23/11/2013 18:35

Verity by Elizabeth Wein ( actually on Audio Books) it was really good, and well read.

MrsMaryCooper · 23/11/2013 18:37

The Casual Vacancy - JK Rowling

juliandickgeorgeandann · 24/11/2013 16:06

Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell by Susannah Clarke. A massively long book, very Dickensian, quite creepy and involving fairies. I read it a few years ago and am about to read again, it's one of my favourite books ever.

juliandickgeorgeandann · 24/11/2013 16:11

Oh and another vote for Life after Life

AimeeDubucqdeRivery · 26/11/2013 19:05

Rules of Civility by Amor Towles, a fantastic read.

I really enjoyed Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell too.

MyMiddleNameIsLaura · 26/11/2013 19:17

I loved Dominion too and The Night Circus.
I've just finished The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It was amazing. Maybe not quite as good as The Secret History - possibly my favourite book ever!
