In the past I got excellent advice on here such as "Heft" - any more for this month?

I enjoyed You Know What You Have to Do

I've heard good things about The James Version, but haven't read it yet myself.

Feenie I read that one, it was quite good wasn't it.

I know Ian Bank's The Wasp Factory was at 99p the other day. It's a great book, if a bit harrowing.

I have bought 'Pilgrims' by Elizabeth Gilbert, a collection of Annie Proulx like short stories, 'Bread' by Ed McBain which is classic Noir Crime and 'The Bookstore' by Deborah Myler which seems to be chick lit set in a NYC bookshop. I also downloaded 'Swansong' on the strength of the first few reviews. At only £1,29 for over 800 pages it seems worth a try.

I have enjoyed Gilberts work and if you like stylised classic crime (originally targetted at male readers I think) then McBain is worth a try. He is well regarded in his genre.

Thanks for the reminder OP.

Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones. It's aimed at teens but is fab!

HilaryM · 11/10/2013 20:20

If you like chick lit or even if you don't, Sophie Ranald's 'it would be wrong to steal my sister's boyfriend (wouldn't it?)' is rather good.
