Have we had a holiday read thread yet this year?

What are you all taking away with you?

I'm considering buying White Murgal by William Dalrymple, but I need lots more than that.

I'm looking for inspiration, I'm not a chick Lit fan and hate the 'I had a crap childhood' type book. My best holiday read in the last few years was The Quincunx.

In fact I may dig that out for a reread.

I just read Al Capone does my Shirts by Gennifer Choldenko- its a children's/young teens book (my daughters) and I found it a really enjoyable and quick read - chapters are really short so if like me you have to get up to deal with one child or another every 5 minutes it doesn't break the flow too much.
Its about a 12 year old boy who lives on Alcatraz ( his dad is a prison guard ) in the 30's - and his family dealing with his severely autisic sister.

Have just read "The Five People you Meet in Heaven" by Mitch Albom by the pool.
Gorgeous gorgeous book. Not remotely chick lit or shite childhood!

I also really enjoyed the Five People book.

Not long finished Brown Owl's Guide To Life by Kate Harrison. Not exactly chick lit as I am not a big fan either. An okay story but it was spoiled for me by the way the characters kept refering to their "fat" friend, quite nastily really although I think the author perhaps thought she was being real. Hmmm.

Currently reading The Food Of Love by Anthony Capella. Really good and quite erotic in a foodie kind of way! Reminds me a little of Like Water For Chocolate.
