What did people think of it? I was a bit bored at first but now i'm racing through it. All the references to IT and evil Derry have really grabbed my interest. I wonder though, if someone hadn't read early SK books, would they enjoy this book as much? I was a bit bored till he met Richie Tozier. What did you all think?

I was baffled for the first third (never read any other SK books)

loved the rest, apart from the very end, will say no more as I think you havent finished yet?

I enjoyed it, but I felt it was a bit slow at times.

I am a sk fan from long ago but not so much his recent stuff but this I liked.

I listened to it on an audiobook and absolutely loved it. It's one of the few audiobooks that I've actually got right through.

I loved it. Definitely a bit slow to get into but once it's got you hooked, that's it!

No i've only just read the first part where he kills Dunning the second time. But i enjoyed all the more for having read IT in the past. Looking forward to the rest now. It's like a book in 2 parts.

I really enjoyed it, but have to confess I started "It" many years ago and never finished it. So I won't have picked up all the references, still a great read though.

I'm reading it at the moment but I've found it hard to get into even though I'm enjoying it.
I've actually been reading it for a year I just put it down then start reading something else but I go back to it as I want to see what happens. I'm on part 4 now so will try to stick it out.

Loved it. Have read it twice. I love nearly everything he writes though (a few notable exceptions).

Have just started his new one Dr Sleep.

Re-reading the Shining then moving on to Dr Sleep.

Never realised until I saw the SK interview on the BBC earlier in the week that SK did not like the movie (shining) one bit!
Agree that the book is much better though!

when we've finished. I have to go out tomorrow and the next night and am annoyed cos I just want go keep reading!

He famously doesn't like film of The Shining Merlin has been saying it for years. I agree with him too, think Kubrick missed the point spectacularly (or didn't but just didn't care).

I really enjoyed it! I like a lot of SK books but sometimes find the endings a bit disappointing. This one was great.

I just watched the film of The Shining and was quite shocked at how rubbish it was! The book is fabulous, I really enjoyed it but the the film was just awful!

I didn't like the film of Misery either though, just don't think Kathy bates captured the psychopathic subtleties that the book does.

I tried to read IT as a teenager but really struggled with it, I'm planning to give it another go when I get round to it, then I'll give 11.22.63 a re read.

IT is my favourite book ever so I think you should give it another go! Can't wait to finish Doctor Sleep now at the weekend only read 100 pages so far.

I loved this book, and felt that most of the Kennedy storyline was far less interesting than the story of a man living in the past. It's well worth a read.

I love how all his works are cross-referenced, but I think one of my favourite nods was in The Stand, where he mentioned a character from someone's elses novels (Steve Carella, an Ed McBain character). I felt that was a two-for-the-price-of-one easter egg :D

Talking of adaptations, has anyone else seen the TV series 'Under the Dome' and just felt it was really lacking?

Agree Plot the evocation of the 50s is great and I really liked the character too. Enjoyed the Kennedy piece but it felt sort of like a sub plot.

I love the bit "you mean to tell me there's a Negro in the White House??!" Hard to believe the 60s was only 50 years ago

I really liked the whole dystopian thing, towards the end of the novel, but wasn't convinced by the old lady ending ( she says trying not to spoil). Buying Doctor Sleep tomorrow,

Yes under the dome tv , is very under whelming no no spoilers as i'm very close to the end. I'm gonna wait for dr sleep coz its still really expensive. I may get from the library.

I really liked this one, King does his research so well and he understands people so well - his recreation of 1960s America is really plausible and immersive. He isn't brilliant at endings and the ending of this felt a bit rushed, but there's so much plot and so much humanity to this that it's easily forgiven.

Hope to have Dr Sleep by the end of the week and am going to dive straight into it - DH is just going to have to wait . And I really look forward to discussing it on this board.

Well i finished. I liked it but not as much as his early horror books. I wonder if he had a film in mind with the ending. I could see the old lady dancing with him at the end as the credits come up would translate really well to film. I just wish he'd do a proper old school horror again like pet cemetary or IT. Fingers crossed for Dr Sleep.
