"Love, laughter, and logging on...Calling all mums! What would you do if your husband had a fling? Have you ever had to keep a terrible secret from your kids? Do you sometimes wish you had a life outside being a mum? Are you pregnant and alone? Caroline, Mark, Susan and Lisa are as different as the parenting problems they face and each has their own reasons for logging on to the Mums@Home website for the very first time. At first they are cynical about the site - how can faceless people possibly help or understand what they are going through? But as the weeks pass and their family problems escalate, each of them begins to realise that Mums@Home has become a lifeline - somewhere to go for advice, to be heard, to escape, or to belong...Sophie King captures the zeitgeist once again with this warm, moving and engaging look at modern parenting and finding friends."

zeitgeist!

Read it and enjoyed it. Now want to get Sophie King's "School Run".

I'm about halfway through and it is all sounding spookily familiar... the homepage with 3 active convs and their little bits about them, the tip, the quote. Oooh, and I think one of the tips was from Scummy Mummy

So.... Sophie King - What's your mn name????

cupcakes · 09/07/2006 18:01

so what are the character's 'MN' names?

ohhh, I'll have to drop the real scummy an email about this... so how does the book end? (don't give too much away). And are there any trolls or troublemakers or tangles with the law? And is Sophie King a mumsnetter?

CaptainFlameSparrow · 10/07/2006 09:35

Finished it last night. No real trolls, but people pretending to be slightly different to who they really are.

Read the insidey cover bit, and it turns out that Sophie King is a journalist called Jane Bidder.

A quick extra question... why do authors write with two names (Ruth Rendell/Barbara Vine etc)? I've never quite got it. I understand having a pen name, but two or three seems excessive...

Scummy Mummy was the only familiar name, but then they were all vaguely familiar due to it being about mums sites so you had all your flabby mums, part time mums etc, and the more "I wanna be ME not mum" type names like Rainbow. The main ones are Mimi, Rainbow, Part Time Mum, and Expectent Mum (with spelling mistake ).
