Life Affirming Reads

I know the literary world is suspicious of a happy ending and positivity.

But I am so fed up with dark themes, dystopias, death and 57 types of despair. Is there anything literary and thought provoking, perhaps futuristic but overall showing a bit of faith in human nature and/ or the future?

I think you can't beat Austen for the sheer joy of life, and a happy ending.

I'm currently reading Billy Bryson... a short history of nearly everything.

He's easy to read but very thought provoking. The first chapter made me look at my (lack of ) faith more closely. I mean, when he describes the group of circumstances that make it possible for us to be here... well it just blows you away!
