Just about finished The Cazalets. I like Swedish crime, Agatha christies, jane austen, kate Morton, ellie Griffiths, interesting yet light stuff....

going away for a month, will need amusing in the evenings.
suggestions please?

Have you read 'Let the Right One In' which is a Swedish vampire novel but quite a decent read?

Ladies Detective Agency?

Georgette Heyer for much lighter Austen-esque stories?

Have you read The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon? There are two sequels too. All long novels. Should keep you occupied for a week or so.

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern - magical, beautifully written.
The Little Stranger by Sarah Waters - intriguing, intelligent, thought-provoking.
The Innocents by Francesca Segal/The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton.

I just randomly bought The Unit by a Swedish author Ninni Holmquist on my Kindle and really loved it.

Ruth Ozeki is a v interesting author too.

Just reading The Disappearance of Emily Marr by Louise Candlish, set on the Ile de Ré which is gripping so far. Have just enjoyed The Shadow Year by Hannah Richell and recently The Son-in-Law by Charity Norman - all have an unusual slant and are well written. Hope you find books to suit and enjoy your holiday!

I tend to start a series and obsessively read every book in it, sit's getting a bit pricey but kindle just makes it too easy

and just remembered William Nicholson trilogy
first is The Secret Intensity of Everyday Life

I've just read and enjoyed the latest Kate Morton. Before that read The Second-last woman in England by Maggie Joel which was also a good read - kind of similar in that it's about secrets within families etc.

latest Kate Morton was a bit tedious I found. readable and quite enjoyed it but twice as long as it needed and i'd worked out the twisty bit long before it arrived.

I've bought a few of your suggestions and think I'll need a few more though.

E-book D.I. Ghost by Lauren White that I download for free from Amazon which I'm really enjoying and All my friends are crazy by Sera Andstadt edited by Sarah Lawson from Chickmunka publishing which is non-fictionn but really interesting.
