Fabulous Audiobooks please!

I am an avid reader, but am new to audiobooks, and am looking for recommendations not only for great books but ones which are fabulously read. I am part way through The Way We Live Now by Anthony Trollope. Long but amazing, read by Timothy West. A real delight. Actually laughing out loud as he simply brings it to life.

I have also just downloaded The Remains of the Day, oddly, read by Dominic West and I just know it will be wonderful.

I have tried some samples of audiobooks which are just dull and flat... I do think they need a wonderful narrator to stand a chance, so please pass me your recommendations! Not at all into Chick Lit, but pretty much anything else goes.

I love audiobooks too! I think a good audiobook is often better than just reading the novel. Best ones I've read recently have been:
The Girl Who Fell From the Sky by Simon Mawer
Gillespie and Me- Jane Harris
Arcadia- Lauren Groff
The Age of Miracles-Karen Thomson Walker
The Mystery of Mercy Close - Marian Keyes

The downside is that if there is a dud reader or a badly written book it is so much worse than reading because you can't skim it! All of the above we're excellent!

BTW I get my audiobooks downloaded directly from the library through OneClick digital. It's free and well worth seeing if your library has a similar service.

I listened to The Light Between Oceans by M L Stedman recently. Can't remember the name of the narrator but he is an Australian actor. Lovely voice, superb narration. Couldnt fault it. There can't be more than one recordind can there? Recommended.

I am reading two auto-biographies at the moment.

One is the Miranda Hart one - it's really annoying. I feel bad for saying it but her voice is so grating! And it feels like unrelated anecdotes so I tend to zone out while it's playing. Hard to finish this one.

Just started American on Purpose by Craig Ferguson. He's from Scotland and is now a naturalised American and a late night chat show host. Very funny. I recently watched a Peter Capaldi interview with him (the new Doctor) on Youtube and they chatted about how they did acid together years back. So far the audiobook is very listenable and I love the way he tells stories. The book is obviously slightly geared to an American audience as it's about how bloody brilliant the US is and why he moved there, but still very good!

I loved PG Wodehouse read by Jonathan Cecil when I was co-sleeping / breastfeeding.

If you are using Audible, I can really recommend 'The Wife's Tale' -- wonderfully read by a Canadian actress. Also 'Flight Behaviour' read by the author, Barbara Kingsolver. Lorrie Moore's 'The Gate at the Stairs'. Tim Winton's 'Dirt Music'. Second the recommendation of 'Light Between Oceans'.

Ive been with Audible for ages, and have quite a few ( I used to drive a commute of an hour, they were brilliant for it)

At the moment I have Edward Rutherfurd's Paris, tis very good.

Loved Millions Like Us by Virginia Nicolson

The Great Gatsby read by Jake Gyllenhaal was very good too

I listen to Librivox audio books too, and agree that some are much better than others. I listened to an excellent recording of The Age of Innocence recently, but struggled with The War of The Worlds and had to give up as the narration was so horribly flat. But it is good to have free access to classic novels as audio books.
