You might like this. It's a bit Dog in the Nighttime. It's too long and goes on a bit in places, but overall it's really quite sweet.

Yes I read it on holiday and gave it too my 13 year old afterwards. It does get a bit slow about 2 thirds of the way through but definitely worth sticking with.
