What Do Women Want? by Daniel Bergner

Just read the review of this in The Guardian: www.guardian.co.uk/books/2013/jul/05/what-do-women-want-daniel-bergner and it made me think it would make interesting reading.

The basic premise seems to be that scientific evidence shows that women are just as sexually adventurous as men, just as liable to get bored in LT relationships, just as curious, just as reckless, just as promiscuous, and perhaps the only difference between men and women is that we're better at managing and controlling our desires in order to keep our families together.

Two lines really stood out for me:

  1. I imagine it's like meeting your wife at 4am in the saloon bar of life. If you're here, who's minding the farm?
  2. "Behind every beautiful woman, there's a man who's bored with sleeping with her".

I think I might read it.

Well I don't believe women are fundamentally different to men,
certainly not all the women are more emotional stuff.essentially personality shaped by genes, experience, upbringing
Not sure what to make off line,1?and line two one could equally change the gender

If you read do post a review

I think that the second comment was by Zoe Williams rather than Robert Bergner. It stood out for me because of the text leading up to it which was about the attractiveness or otherwise of Ed Balls. Left me a bit queasy... Book sounds good tho'. Good one to frighten people with on the train.

I also read the review, it was very interesting! It made me feel less guilty about fantasising about other men than my dh ;) And I do think he's right, women are just as promiscuous as men, we just don't necessarily act on it, and we are better at being discrete if we are unfaithful.

Agree with Randomkaz re Ed Balls. I would do Daniel Bergner though ;)
