about a young man she met in South Africa, who raves about the books he borrowed from a library . . . . please.

It's a wonderful poem which she performed to a clapped rhythm and it isn't in either of my J Grenfell books

TIA

Loved her as a child. George, don't do that!

Sorry, not helpful, but bumped!

Thank you :) Have just been rereading some of the monologues and giggling. She was fab.

V cross at having lost this one. It was in a totally different vein, not humorous or sending someone up, but very gentle and rather a good poem . . . Will keep looking

I don't know that one, sorry. I've had a look through Turn Back the Clock but couldn't see it.

Hi There. You are thinking of Nicodemus' Song.

Louise1956 · 16/08/2013 16:17

is it called 'Going Away in Books'? it is a very touching poem. She performs it in her 70s TV series, which you can get on DVD as The Joyce Grenfell Collection.

It is called Nicodemus' song as per my earlier message but does contains the lines " all the time I am travelling in my head " and "I am going away in books" You can hear a small sample on Amazon if you search the title.
