That's it really. What are you ready at the moment and are you enjoying it?

I'm reading Fahrenheit 451 and loving it.

I probably won't bother with The World of Poo Grin

kelda · 09/06/2013 07:49

To be honest, it's so long since I've read Ray Bradbury, I have forgotton them all. I am also half way through the Illustrated Man Grin. Lots of half read books that I plan on finishing.

The problem is, I have loads of second hand/Kindle books that I want to read, but I cannot resist the lure of the library and library books have to take priority because of the time limit on them.

The Great Gatsby, for the millionth time.

Glorious book.

ShadeofViolet · 09/06/2013 08:42

Just finished a Non-fiction called 'The Italian Boy'

About to start The Sea Change which I have been looking forward to for a while, and it makes a nice change from Uni texts.

pillow1999 · 09/06/2013 08:52

Lost Innocence by Susan Lewis.

Not an author I have read before, but got it for a couple of pound and I am really enjoying it....

mixedmamameansbusiness · 11/06/2013 20:57

Today: HHhH currently wishing I wasn't but it is for book club so I will plough on.

EleanorFarjeon · 11/06/2013 21:02

'It was a pleasure to burn' - one of the best opening lines of all time.

I'm reading Lionel Shriver's Big Brother, another book club choice.

missmarplestmarymead · 11/06/2013 21:36

Just beginning, One Step Too Far. Hope it is going to be enjoyable as was wearied out with my previous read, The Rose Petal Beach by Dorothy Koomson. I bought it because I enjoyed her The ice Cream Girls but it was a dreadful effort to actually force myself to carry on to the end.

MerlinFromCamelot · 11/06/2013 22:27

Just finished " As far as you can go" totally brilliant, starting "Nina Todd had gone" both by L. Glaister

Only a few pages in to Nina Todd, enjoying it do far.

Portofino · 11/06/2013 22:29

Mary Boleyn The infamous Whore - Alison Weir. Very interesting.

ItsallFeegle · 11/06/2013 22:37

Ooh I'm having that Porto - sounds tres interesting!

ItsallFeegle · 11/06/2013 22:38

Lionel Shriver's 'We need to talk about Kevin' is also an amazing read.

highlandcoo · 11/06/2013 23:35

Just finished The Happy Numbers of Julius Miles by Jim Keeble, who came to talk (very entertainingly) at our library book group tonight. Quirky tale set in east London and telling the story of a big, bumbling, fairly clueless statistician called Julius who finds numbers more reassuring than human relationships .. and how he eventually finds love. Excellent portrayal of modern London life, beautifully written and a lot more original than I've made it sound. If you liked the way Death narrated The Book Thief, then you should enjoy the Cupid character in this book.

Just about to start Walking on Glass by Iain Banks. Reading my way through all his work at the moment; I started when I heard he was ill but only managed four books before he died Sad

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2013 07:56

I enjoyed, 'The Italian Boy.' My favourite sort of book - history, intrigue, medicine and dead bodies! :)

InMySpareTime · 12/06/2013 07:58

Isaac Asimov "Foundation" and Mike Parker "The wild rover".
I usually have at least one fiction and one non-fiction on the go at once, to suit my mood.

EuroShaggleton · 12/06/2013 08:02

I've just started Tigers in Red Weather. I can't get into it yet.

I've just finished Stephen King's 22.11.63, which I really enjoyed.

InMySpareTime · 12/06/2013 08:18

I read 22.11.63 a while ago, found it heavy going! The end was a bit disappointing IMO.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 12/06/2013 08:23

I was also disappointed with the ending, which I thought felt a bit contrived. Strangely, it worked better for me on re-reading.

pennyink · 12/06/2013 08:54

Margaret Forster's Mother Can You Hear Me. It's really quite depressing and the main character is deeply unlikeable!

Galaxymum · 12/06/2013 09:24

I'm reading Lady of Hay by Barbara Erskine. It is so compelling and I love the historical detail. I discovered the author reading River of Destiny earlier this year and now want to read her other novels. Lady of Hay is a hefty book to carry around but I couldn't resist the cover of the 25th anniversary edition.

HormonalHousewife · 12/06/2013 09:29

Mouse and the Cossacks courtesy of MN Smile thanks !

really enjoying it .

minimuffin · 15/06/2013 00:27

The Stranger's Child by Alan Hollinghurst. Loved parts 1 - 4, now finding it a bit repetitive towards end and I'm not quite sure where its going. Might be because I read it loads on hol then didn't pick it up for about 10 days. Had a read earlier and struggled a bit. He's such a great writer though.

Just treated myself to a cookbook by Tessa Kiros - falling cloudberries - as I'm currently having a short stay in hospital, so I switched to that and am loving it

This thread has reminded me I want to read Tigers in Red Weather.

Ellenora5 · 15/06/2013 00:56

I'm a bit stuck at the moment, so re reading Shell Sheekers and A Winter Solstice, they are my comfort books, really love them. Recently read Room, very good, well written and very moving. I gave up on The Slap, couldn't get into it at all. Thinking of starting The Hunger Games, I'm not sure though, saw the first film and it sort of bothered me, I liked it but found it disturbing. I tend to revert back to the oldies for a while, Silas Marner, Jayne Eyre, love them both since reading them in school. Hope you don't mind me joining your thread, I'm getting great ideas here, thanks

Ellenora5 · 15/06/2013 01:02

Galaxymum, just read your post, Barbara Erskine is one of my favourites, have you read Child of the Phoenix, it's amazing, I love all her books, love being spooked, Times Legacy is absolutely fab and makes you wonder about things, I'm hoping there is a new one soon, must google actually. I have all her books neatly arranged on my bookshelves and I'm very fussy as to who I lend them too Blush

Galaxymum · 15/06/2013 18:00

I picked up Time's Legacy and Whispers In The Sand at the library this week. I am so excited to find a new author - every book looks intriguing. I have read the synopsis of Child of the Phoenix and definitely must read it. I'm about two thirds through of Lady of Hay which has completely gripped me. But I also don't want it to end!
