A Suitable Boy on Kindle - did I imagine it??

AgentProvocateur · 21/05/2013 22:35

I'm 99% sure that I once posted on a thread about A Suitable Boy being available on Kindle, and I have been SO looking forward to downloading it.

But it doesn't appear to be available on Kindle, and I can't find the original thread.

Was it all a dream? Does anyone know if/when it will be available on Kindle? I'll need to rethink my whole holiday reading list now Sad

Have looked around for you, using my young adult ways ( Grin ) and it seems the only available kindle-compatable version is an abridged version of the book. If you want I can give you a copy that you can put on your kindle manually, but you probably wont see it on Amazon for a while.

As it's one of the longest books ever published in a single volume, it may never become an ebook due to the sheer size the file would have to be to support all the pages.

Thank you for looking. I do have the book, but it's too heavy for the beach/bed/commute, so I've never read it. It is the book I always planned to read if I ever had a stay in hospital (for some non-serious, but highly contagious illness, that would mean I had to spend a fortnight in an isolation room Wink)

Out of interest, how do you manually put a book on kindle - scan every page, then PDF it?

I looked at amazon when you posted about it first and almost bought it at the time because I lost my book (well, not really lost it but I can't ask to have it back). I thought it was the full version but it's gone now.
This is strange.

EatenByZombies · 22/05/2013 16:18

Well, I usually find a version someone else has put on the internet Pirate Bay but that's how they do it, yes.
You can just search for the book online (if you feel brave enough) in .MOBI (e-book file), .TXT (notepad file) or .PDF form, then you connect your kindle to the pc and put the files you want into the "documents" or "books" folder (depending on which version of the kindle you have) :)

You must read it. I loved it.

ArabellaBeaumaris · 22/05/2013 20:10

Cut your physical copy into as many slim volumes as is desirable to you & read it thus. Great book.

AgentProvocateur · 22/05/2013 22:33

Gracelo, do you remember that thread too? I can't find it. Thought it was all a dream Wink

I'll hold off for the kindle version, whenever that might be, or else keep the actual book for my retirement...

other thread here Agent

I second BestIsWest, it's a fantastic book. Don't wait until your retirement.

AgentProvocateur · 23/05/2013 08:27

Thank you, thank you, thank you Gracelo!

The first post on that thread says its available from 30/5, so all hope is not lost. Although it's not appearing on forthcoming Kindle releases. Maybe it's been delayed, but us in the pipeline

Yes fingers crossed Agent.

I have seen it at Amazon though, I looked at it at least twice since this first thread and almost bought it but the Kindle was upstairs and I thought it could wait, sigh. I don't think it was an abridged version either but I'm not sure about that.

I have to resurrect this thread despite the zombie warning.

A Suitable Boy is now available on kindle, I just downloaded it for £3.95.

hackmum · 14/12/2013 10:02

Great news, Gracelo - have meant to read it for years, never got round to it, so looks like now's the time!

staticlunge · 14/12/2013 12:13

It's one of my favorite books I have I read it so many times have added it to my kindle as well. Thank you

AgentProvocateur · 03/01/2014 13:03

I missed your bump of this thread, Gracelo, but I found out through amazon today that there was a kindle version - I had to come and update my old thread.

God, is it twenty years since this came out? I must be getting old!

Love this book and am delighted to see it on Kindle as the paper copy is not exactly handbag-friendly!

Crowler · 11/01/2014 11:30

I Love This Book.

I read it pre-Kindle release and it fell apart, it's unwieldy.

Crowler · 11/01/2014 11:38

I think he's writing a sequel, A Suitable Girl? Or did I imagine that?

MimsyBorogroves · 11/01/2014 12:31

FINALLY!

I know what I'm spending the last of my Christmas money on now.
