Hunger Games Book - any good?

That's it really is it any good? It seems slightly teenagery rather than an adult book, is that the case?

I've not seen the film and don't want any plot spoilers please.

Yes, it is a bit teenagery. I thought it was a good quick read though. I enjoyed it.

Best books I read last year.

Set me off on a path of teen fiction Grin

Maybe not the most well written books but the story is original and thought provoking imho.

I'm not after war and peace as its what I read at night to keep me awake breast feeding but I am after something more sophisticated than, say, Harry Potter.

Interesting enough to keep you awake but not a great tome you need to be 'in the mood for'.

They're perfect for dipping into when you're too tired to really concentrate but but need something gripping enough to keep you awake. Order it from the library so you don't have to fork out for something you might not enjoy.

Yes, they are a bit teenagery but I loved them all the same, much better than the film imo and generally a really good read.

Sounds good. I've recently got a kindle and am going through books at a lightening rate due to the amount of time I am spending reading!

It's proving hard to find light but interesting reads that aren't purely romance. At the pace I've been going I could well be back tomorrow night with my opinion on this book!

I loved the first one. It was gripping, but didn't find the second one quite so good. The third one I wasn't keen on at all. But, on the whole, I think they are worth reading. Hope you enjoy them Doodle :)

I've downloaded the first without thinking to ask do the stories standalone or will I need to read all three? Not that it matters that much if I like them as I need lots of reading at the moment thanks to the large selection of early hours my baby DD is treating us to!

the first one is brilliant

second one is less so and third one is half read

i would recommend - i think i made the mistake of reading them one after the other so had "fatigue"

Definitely I'd say the first one could be read as a stand alone novel. You don't need to read the other two if you don't want to. I probably should have left it at the first one, which is brilliant like rubyslippers says.

The first one is just amazing. Enjoyed the second one but found myself getting through the third just to find out what happens in the end.

I would completely recommend the first one though!

I really enjoyed them - way more than the film which I found a bit "meh". But yes, you cannot go back to sleep until you've got to the end. sorry.

It's fine, DD took a while to settle around 4am and I'm a fast reader. According to my kindle I'm 83% through but I don't think I'll get a chance to read again for a while as DS will be waking shortly!

Agree with everyone - thought the first one was brilliant! When a book moves you to tears by page 25, you know it's good. Was disappointed by others but would probably still read them...just to know.

Ok I've finished it, just in time!

Really enjoyed it but probably a bit too addictive at night time!

I am very tempted by the second one but if I get it now I'll lose the rest of the day so I think I'll have a break from them as suggested by other posters.

They are quite an easy read, but still worth reading. I found the second half of the third book quite disturbing in content.
