kindle problem with wi-fi connection

Can I ask for advice from more experienced kindle users please?

I got my kindle for Christmas and haven't used it loads; just read one crime novel straight off to get to grips with it, then used it again when travelling in the Far East last month.

I've been buying a few e-books if I've seen a good bargain. But since coming back from holiday whispernet seems not to be working. I still have the books I went on holiday with but the more recent ones have never appeared.

Tried all the troubleshooting tips like switching off completely and restarting but no joy. When I go onto Settings and get to Wi-Fi Networks it says:
Available Wi-Fi Networks (0)
Network: not connected

and obviously I need to connect to download material ..

I'm not very techy and maybe there's something very simple I'm completely missing here?

Any advice very gratefully received!

Is your router switched on? Have you got the net for everything else at home? Sorry but that is the sort of thing I would do.

Yes, everything else is fine .. MacBook, iPad, iPhone all ok.

Will maybe go into John Lewis and see if a helpful person can sort it out

Is it in airplane mode?

Make sure it's not on air plane mode. Ime Kindle support are fantastic so give them a ring.

Hi all, and thanks for the attempts to help. No, it's not on air plane mode.. nothing so simple unfortunately.

valium, I actually did end up phoning kindle support last night. Got a helpful guy who spent over half an hour talking me through possible ways to unfreeze it but with no luck. Seems it's not a straightforward problem.

I now have to somehow download "logs" from the kindle and email them to kindle support for them to diagnose the problem. Will possibly need to wait until the weekend and get my son to help with that.

If this doesn't achieve a good result I will be asking for a replacement device - it's less than 5 months old and I'm not impressed!

They will replace it, they are great. Kindles have all sorts of glitches on them, it's not uncommon.

i had this - get thee on the amazon website customer services, they ring you back in about 5 seconds and talk you through it all. In my case they established that the kindle was faulty and arranged for another one to be sent out in the next 5 days - it arrived next day
