I listen to audio books and I've just received a new credit for this month so I can pick any book I want.

I am coming to the end of The Help and I have loved it so far. I haven't watched the film.

What I haven't want to know is what else is similar that I will also love?

TIA Smile

Sorry, don't know about The Help but I love anything by Jane Green.

I loved listening to The Patchwork Marriage by Jane Green. She reads it herself and has a Joanna Lumley type voice.

GW297 · 06/05/2013 23:47

We posted the same thing at the same time!

mameulah · 06/05/2013 23:56

That is a very happy coincidence, Incognito you will absolutely have to get that now!

Well gw297, we obviously have the same taste. Is there anything else that you could recommend me? (And of course Incognito!)

Sophie Kinsella - Can you keep a secret? and Marian Keyes - Yhe Mystery of Mercy Close.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 07/05/2013 13:14

Ok ordered the patchwork marriage.

I'll try Sophie Kinsella next time. Not too sure if I will like Marian Keyes

If you want something similar to The Help, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd is very good. Not sure how available it is in audio format however.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/05/2013 19:24

Do watch the film - I thought it was a lot better than the book tbh.

Have you read, 'The Divine Secrets Of The Ya Ya Sisterhood?' You might enjoy that.

PeppaFuckingPig · 07/05/2013 19:45

I loved The Help. Also enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees.

My favourite book - To Kill A Mockingbird?
I like Marian Keyes book too - 'chick lit' but not overpowering and with good themes. Rachel's Holiday was my fave.
If you enjoy Marian Keyes you might also like Anna Maxted - again 'chick lit' but not too fluffy.

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak was also very enjoyable.

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 13/05/2013 22:31

I've read to kill a mocking bird more than once.

I may try some Marian Keyes. The help is far from fluffy chick lit and I like how it's factual. I never read chick lit I'm just not that sort of girl.

I'm always rolling my eyes through it Grin

I'm listening to Marian Keys The Mystery of Mercy Close right now and really enjoying it. It deals with the theme of depression.

I recently read Love Verb by Jane Green. Loved it but cried buckets! Also Me Before You by JoJo Moyes I loved, but see some on here didn't rate it

IncognitoIsMyFavouriteWord · 14/05/2013 23:03

GW that is exactly what I'm talking about thank you

I've bought the help film. I hope it doesn't piss me off when it misses parts out

I enjoyed the film but I haven't read the book.

valiumredhead · 15/05/2013 15:11

Big Stone Gap was great on audio, I listened to it years ago when ds was a baby.

GW297 · 16/06/2013 23:34

Me before you is a great story to listen to and I'm half way through listening to Sophie Kinsella's Wedding Night and really enjoying it.
