Warm books?!

I know the weather forecasters keep saying it's going to warm up, but the cold has really got into my bones (as my granny would have said).

Which books have warmth or sunshine as a theme? I can think of The Go-Between and Penelope Lively's Heatwave, but then my mind goes blank.

Perhaps I should read something set in a hot country.

Isn't this weather just lasting and lasting. It has to warm up soon, surely???

If you want something classic try THe Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von.... Armin? Sorry I can't quite remember her surname. It's about a group of ladies who rent an Italian villa to get away from various problems/husbands! Has beautiful descriptions of the scenery and just has a hot and lazy feel

i just read the snow child and 1222 to try and embrace the cold, now switching to a bit of Carl Haaisen who writes slightly silly crime stories based in florida, all sweat sand cocktails and crocodiles

Cutting for stone is by Abraham Verghese. It is a sweeping, emotionally riveting first novel—an enthralling family saga of Africa and America, doctors and patients, exile and home. It's about twins. I really enjoyed it.

Actually, the weather does finally seem to be warming up!

Brazzaville Beach by William Boyd.

Mostly set in Africa, a few cold English scenes but worth it for the loveliness of, well, all of it really.

Or have you considered Cujo by Stephen King? Family trapped in a broken-down and very hot car by a rabid dog during a heatwave.

How about the no1 ladies detective agency for a gentle read or the Montalbano book August Heat for a grittier one.

How about A YEAR IN PROVENCE? I haven't actually read it, but I remember when it came out there was a lot of noise about it making everyone want to leave for warmer climes.

Some books I've already read, but may well read again, some I don't know so will look for them.

I actually sat in a sunny window today and read for a while, it felt fantastic! Perhaps we'll have a heatwave and will be asking each other for cold books before long
