After really disliking her on the basis of the stuff she wrote in The Guardian last year, about the break up of her marriage, I picked up the Bradshaw Variations out of curiosity and, to my surprise, really liked it. I went onto In The Fold and have ordered her others from the library. I think she writes beautifully. granted, nothing much seems to actually happen and she doesn't seem to empathize with any of her characters, but she nails human relationships really well. she reminds me of early Martin Amis, before he got boring. anybody else read her?

Yes, I'm trying her again too, and have just been reading In The Fold (Bradshaw Variations on order from the library). I still can't make up my mind - I read her book about motherhood a couple of years back too, and alternated between wanting to shake her, and admiring the way she wrote.

I read an early book of hers as I was supposed to attend a reading of something new she wrote. I can't remember the title, but it put me off so much I didn't go in the end Blush

I really like her fiction - Arlington Park is my favourite of hers.
