School Link - does your school do this?

When you get a catalogue through 6x a year, do you think "Oh, no not School Link again?" Do you feel in any way obliged to buy anything? Or do you just throw it in the bin if you're not interested?

I finally persuaded our PTA to give this a go, rather than Scholastic Book Fairs (which ridiculously charge full publishers prices for all the books). I did all the admin and organisation, and we had £560 of orders in our first order, and masses of freebies for the school.

Now the Chair of the PTA has left a message on my phone to say that 6x a year is too often, and we should only do it once a term?!

Once a term is more than enough IMO, and I am on the PTA.

I think once a term is enough,(i.e., 3x ayear) because some parents would see this as a pressure to buy.
Our school is not in the most affulent of areas and it wouldn't appropriate to send home more than 3x a year. Realistically I doubt our head would agree to more than once a year tbh.

I agree that once a term is probably enough - maybe put an extra one in in time for Christmas though.

I run the book club in school and am sent leaflets every month to distribute! Don't do it though.

Do one when we return in August as there's always great bargains and a 50% commission, about Nov in time for Christmas and again in January- lots of Christmas money waiting to be spent. We have the book fair too- middle of next month- so probably won't do another one. So about 3 or 4 times a year.

Dd's school does a book fair every single month, with a couple of companies - it's the one thing that really hacks me off about the school. If they had them a bit less frequently I would probably buy something each time, but I think once a month is taking the pee so I never buy.

Oh thanks for the feedback. It sounds as though Batters and I are in the minority.

I don't mind, as it's less work for me to only do it 3 times.
