A strong Polish Female Character

Hello I have a friend who is Polish and speaks excellent English and currently studying A level.
She is such a strong character who is working so well to better herself, I wanted to treat her.

Does anybody know of a book written in English that contains a strong Polish Female character. Or failing this anything else that would remind her of her country but written in English

Many thanks

The silver sword - children boys and girls rather than just one girl.

Something about the Podgórski sisters, if there is one, I think the 'story' comes up in other books and of course it is fact. Their story is in Women Heroes of World War II: 26 Stories of Espionage, Sabotage, Resistance, and Rescue but with 25 others.
