Books which would make good TV series/films?

Which books would love to see adapted for the screen?

I was really looking forward to the Mark Billingham's books being adapted, but tbh, it was very boring underwhelming.

I enjoyed Gone Baby Gone, and love Dennis Lehane's books, although think they should have started with Darkness Take My Hand.

There is a series of Books by Mike Carey which would make an excellent TV show, starring exorcist/private investigator Felix Castor.

I've just read Dead Simple by Peter James, which was a total page-turner, that was very action filmy, IYSWIM.

There was one by Chris Cleave called Little Bee, I think, which would make a brilliant drama.

I've always thought The Child In Time
by Ian McEwan would be great. Just read The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell and think that would be a good 'un, too. Would probably cry buckets at both, mind.

Hmm...not sure. I was dying to see any of Lee Child's novels filmed, but I'll tell you that I could weep at the thought of Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher. I love Lee Child's books, but Reacher is 6ft 5" and blonde - a fact that is constantly emphasised throughout the books. The idea of tiny, dark haired Tom Cruise playing him is excruciating. I will not be going to see it.

In general I have been underwhelmed by film adaptations of books.

I think the Sisters Brothers would make a good Coen Brothers film.

I hate it when they turn my favourite books into series/movies they ruin them nearly everytime Angry I love the Dresden files they could be an amazing series they did run one series of 13 episodes but they didn't follow the series they were all over the place and absolutly blood crap I'm still angry about it if you couldn't tell Grin

American Gods is getting a series but Neil Gaiman is writing it so I'm slightly more hopeful for that.

Interview with a vampire was done OK but they completely failed on Queen of the Damned imo.

If they promised to do it right and not mess it up I would love to see the Odd Thomas series of books made into movies which is kind of a moot point since the first one comes out this year Grin and yes even though I don't think they'll do it right I am excited ad will be watching Grin

I'd really like to see Lin Anderson's Rhona McLeod books made into a TV series. But then I'd probably hate it because they'd ruin it and not make it exactly how I would! If fact they should leave it alone. Also thanks for reminding me that I still have Doors Open to catch on the Iplayer.

The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce would make a brilliant film assuming they got a decent actor for the protagonist

brendarenda · 06/01/2013 09:24

I agree - I reckon Tom Wilkinson (Gerald from Full Monty) would make a good Harold.

Hungry Hill by Daphne duMaurier would make a great period drama TV series, each chapter skips on a generation and there are some really great, fiesty characters.

I'd love to see Secret History by Donna Tartt made into a film. Me and a friend had a whole cast worked out a few years back.
