I bought this as the reviews were amazing and I am going through a phase of dark fiction.
I liked it, and it was hard to put down BUT it was a depressing read.

plus how did he pay the lawyers massive retainer????

I thought it was ridiculously over-rated and implausible.

Started off well but just descended into shite. The ending made me Hmm for days.

Have just started Dark Places. Struggling to get into it.

Mrsrudolphduvall · 02/01/2013 15:32

I really liked it.
But then I like depressing books.

BOFingResolutions · 02/01/2013 15:34

Dark Places is brilliant. I enjoyed Gone Girl, but the first third dragged a bit.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 02/01/2013 15:39

I was disappointed, partly as the reviews had hyped it so much that expectations were high. Hated the characters and didn't get past the first 50 pages.

MimsyBorogroves · 02/01/2013 16:15

The beginning dragged. Once I got into it I enjoyed it, but it wasn't the enthralling, amazing page turner which was what I'd been led to believe.

CoteDAzur · 02/01/2013 16:37

The first third was boring as hell. Then it got interesting. I really liked it.

Then again, I like dark books about damaged people and psychopaths.

Thought you might like to know that GONE GIRL is Mumnet's February Book of the Month. So whatever your feelings, good or bad, come and join the discussion, see what others thought and put your question to Gillian Flynn - she'll be joining us live on Tue 26 Feb, 9-10pm...

I enjoyed the beginning but hated the end. Disappointed.

His twin sister remortgaged her house to pay the lawyer's retainer.

notactuallyme · 25/01/2013 19:22

I think this is the one where she has set it up? Really lame ending?

verytellytubby · 25/01/2013 19:23

Notactuallyme Yes!

daisygatsby · 28/01/2013 11:44

i loved this book! read it all in one day (thanks to being ds free for the day!)

CoteDAzur · 28/01/2013 13:51

I didn't think the ending was lame, at all. The guy is trapped and there isn't much he can do.

notactuallyme · 28/01/2013 14:58

Lame because it felt like an unlikely easy option for the author. Sorry!

daisygatsby · 28/01/2013 15:37

i didnt think the ending was lame either. the easy option wouldve been for her to go to prison surely?

CoteDAzur · 28/01/2013 16:54

I agree. I thought the ending was quite original, with the killer winning in the end.

rubyslippers · 28/01/2013 16:56

i thought it was pretty gripping

it was a page turner and the ending was in keeping with the tone of the book

they were both trapped in different ways
